A man stopped for driving "unusually slow" has been handed a 17-month ban and more than £200 fine after pleading guilty to drink driving last month.

Daren Bryant, of Waldemar Park, was sentenced at Norwich Magistrates Court on Friday.

Stuart Cowen, prosecuting, said Bryant aroused the suspicion of the police after he was seen driving unusually slow along Boundary Road at 2.55am on June 1 this year.

Mr Cowen added police formed the impression he may have been drinking, so a roadside breath test was taken which he failed. Bryant was then arrested.

"The situation has hit him hard and he's made a big error of judgement, one of which he'll pay a very high price for.

"He's worried about the loss of his licence and what that will mean for his work."

Chairwoman of the bench, Catherine Booty, sentenced Bryant to a £218 fine and was disqualified from driving for 17 months, with a reduction if he completes a driving course.
