A flight from Turkey to Norwich has dropped passengers off 150 miles away after it was diverted due to missing its runway arrival.

Passengers packed their suitcases ready to jet off on their TUI flight from Dalaman to Norwich Airport on Friday.

But just when they expected the plane to land in Norwich the flight was forced to turn around after it missed its landing time.

Instead of Norwich Airport, the flight headed to the west midlands where passengers were dropped off at Birmingham Airport.

A spokesman for Tui UK & I explained that the diversion was caused due to a "delay" which meant the aircraft did not make it to Norwich Airport in time for the runway closure.

TUI team members met customers at Birmingham Airport where coaches were waiting to transport them "as quickly as possible" to Norwich Airport.

The aircraft then had to undergo a "bird strike inspection" on Saturday morning before it could go back to Norwich for the day's flights.

This resulted in a knock-on delay to a flight which departed two and a half hours late for Palma de Mallorca.

A spokesman for Tui UK & I said: "We’d like to sincerely apologise to passengers who were impacted by the diversion of delayed flight TOM455 from Dalaman to Norwich yesterday, which had to divert to Birmingham.

"And to customers on flight TOM5662 from Norwich to Mallorca which was delayed this morning.

"We completely understand that diversions and delays of this nature are frustrating and it's not how we want our customers’ holidays to begin or end.

"We would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding."
