A timeline for the building of up to 730 new homes on the outskirts of a Norfolk town has been released - a decade after the plans were given the green light.

Housing developer Taylor Wimpey has completed the building of the first 153 homes between Rightup Lane and Silfield Road in Wymondham.

Now, the phasing plan for the rest of the work has been submitted to South Norfolk District Council.

The first phase saw builders construct a road access to the upcoming road access to the upcoming Lakeside Primary School, which will be at the heart of the estate.

When completed, the primary school will have space for 420 new pupils.

Around 150 homes were also completed to the south of the plot as part of this phase.

Phase two will see a further 52 homes built in the northwest of the plot, with the primary school set to be finished before the 200th house is completed.

Further roads around the estate will also be developed as part of this phase, as well as a large green space.

Some 129 more homes will be built to the north of the plot by Taylor Wimpey as part of phase three, and a further 115 developed to the south by housing group Vistry.

The final phase of the build will see the final 72 Taylor Wimpey homes completed around the site, and 137 Vistry homes built on the land closest to the A11, to the east of the plot.

Green spaces around the site, when it is completed, will include a large community green near Silfield Road, several allotments and an orchard.

Last July, local councillors warned that Wymondham was already at breaking point, with homes being built faster than necessary infrastructure, such as dentists, health centres and schools.

Original plans suggest a care home with up to 128 beds and up to 800 square feet of retail or commercial floor space will also be built as part of the development.
