A desire for a lifestyle change has prompted the owners of a city gifting and homeware business to close their shop.

Rambling Wild in Unthank Road will soon shut its doors and the property has already hit the market with Arnold Keys.

Its owner Mary Brooks said that they will instead focus on building their online business.

"When we first opened, we sold flowers, and the wedding side of things was very popular," she said.

"But there was a lot of work involved with flowers, and we were posting most of our bouquets all over the UK, which was taking so much time and money.

"We would have had to increase our prices and we didn't want to do that.

"We started running floristry workshops, which sold out at Christmas but were unpredictable at other times in the year.

"It's been really tricky.

"We sell a lot of our stock online, so we decided to take away the costs of keeping the shop and focus on growing an online business instead."

Mary will move the business to run the workshops and post parcels from her home and will pop up at a few fairs around the county selling some of the most popular items.

Currently, the shop hasn't got a closing date and will stay open until another business signs the lease to take over the premises.

"It is a lifestyle change that has prompted this, as I have three children at home, and our online business is growing, so it makes sense to focus on that," she said.

"If we didn't have to pay staff and I could be here all the time, we would stay - but by moving it online it will be much more flexible for us and will cut a lot of the costs.

"Launching in the middle of the Covid pandemic in 2021 helped us in many ways.

"Everyone bought loads of stuff around Christmas as they were desperate to make it the best one ever.

"Since then, with the cost of living, everyone is just being more careful with their money.

"We will miss all of our customers, but with the workshops, we hope that we will still see people."

Rambling Wild will have a big sale in the lead-up to its closure, with information posted to its social media channels.
