Twelve drivers were handed tickets and points on their licences after being pulled over in Sprowston.

Officers from several police units headed to Wroxham Road to take part in a road safety operation on Tuesday.

It was part of a campaign against the 'fatal four' driving offences of speeding, using a phone while driving, failing to wear a seatbelt and drink and drug driving.

Twelve people were given a ticket and points on their licence and 11 of these had breached the 'fatal four' laws.

One other had been stopped for driving in a manner not in accordance with their licence.

A further four people were given words of advice and one person was handed a Vehicle Rectification Scheme letter which deals with relatively minor defects like blown bulbs or cracked mirrors.

A Broadland police spokesman said: "It's so important to regularly do these road operations - but especially during the month of July.

"In July, the number of people killed and seriously injured on the roads increases by over 20pc based on the average across the year in data collated from 2018 to 2022."
