The chances of a boutique cinema chain coming to a city shopping centre seem to be growing increasingly unlikely.

Bosses at Everyman Cinemas have thrown doubt over the opening of Norwich's latest picture house by revealing that they "can't comment" on any plans for the Chantry Place site.

CEO of Everyman Cinemas, Alex Scriegmour, said: "Norwich is a vibrant city with a rich history of culture and cinema-going.

"While we feel sure that Everyman would work well in Norwich, we unfortunately can't comment about any potential opening plans in Chantry Place at this time."

Everyman Cinemas was granted planning permission for a new four-screen complex in the former Escape Hut last December.

The plans for the cinema appear to have stalled, with the shop remaining vacant.

Everyman is a chain of boutique cinemas with screens across the country in London, Manchester and Liverpool.

If bosses do move ahead with plans, this would be the fourth cinema in the city alongside ODEON at Riverside, Vue in Castle Quarter and Cinema City in St Andrew's Street.
