A city centre pub will be getting a new look after its designs were given the go ahead.

The Lamb Inn, in Orford Place, will be sporting a new colour scheme after applying to upgrade its signage.

The signs will include several lights installed on them around the grade II-listed site with the lower half of the main building being painted dark grey.

A new coffee station, furniture, televisions, lighting, flooring and redecorating throughout the whole of the interior would also take place.

Owners, pub group Stonegate, also applied for planning permission for a new external bar at the pub ahead of the summer months - which is still awaiting approval.

A spokesman for Stonegate said: "Due to the popularity of The Lamb Inn's renowned outdoor space in the heart of Norwich, we are upgrading the area.

"We can’t wait to welcome more people to experience the new and improved outdoor space."

If plans for the outdoor bar are approved it will be built to the right of the entrance in the courtyard, in a permanent wooden structure, with a hatch to serve customers on the side.

The canopy, which covers a large portion of the courtyard, would also be replaced with new lighting installed to keep the area operating when it gets dark.

Originally an inn known as The Holy Lamb as early as the 12th century the site was built using bricks from a local church and started trading from 1574.

It was called the Rat and Parrot in 1996 and Henry's Café Bar in 2002, before being renamed to The Lamb Inn in 2011.
