An empty city centre building could get a roof terrace as part of plans to refurbish the site.

The former Hughes Electrical in Norwich's White Lion Street is set for a facelift as City Hall has given plans to transform the shop the green light.

The building sits within a much larger property - which also houses Holland and Barrett and the former White Lion Cafe - and the plans are part of a wider scheme to revamp the entire site.

The plans, which were submitted by Cornhill Commercial LLP, will mostly focus on the repair and redecoration of the "aging and dirty rendered concrete frame" which has "a tired appearance".

This will be painted a bright white as part of the work, with all the windows replaced with black aluminium frames.

The former Hughes will also undergo a paint job, with the shop windows and door frame painted grey, and the steel shutter will be removed.

A terrace area will be built on the flat roof of the building, which the plans say could be used in the future for al fresco dining by a restaurant - but the use of this area is currently unknown, with Hughes remaining empty and still available to let.
