A Norwich City fan is stepping into the spotlight as part of a Sky Sports campaign capturing the hopes and dreams of football supporters ahead of the new season. 

Representing the Canaries, George Browne is joining fans from each of the 92 Football League clubs in sharing their expectations for the 2024/25 season, right in time for City's kick-off at the Kassam Stadium against newly promoted Oxford United on Saturday. 

Sky Sports’ research reveals that Norwich City fans are entering the season with mixed feelings, with only 43pc expressing optimism—a figure below the national average of 65pc. 

But Browne's heartfelt message aims to rally the fanbase, drawing inspiration from his three-year-old daughter’s enthusiasm for the team.

His message says: “A new season. A new ethos. A new manager. And a new fan. 

“Every time we drive past Carrow Road, my three-year-old daughter shouts, ‘Norwich City!’ 

“It will be her first game this season at Carrow Road. It’s a shame it won’t be Ipswich.” 

The campaign, which showcases fans’ stories across Sky’s social media platforms, taps into the wide range of emotions that football evokes.  

According to the research, Norwich supporters feel excitement (52pc), anticipation (38pc), and hope (37pc) as the season approaches.

The sport also brings happiness to 11pc of fans and a sense of community to 26pc. 

One in 20 supporters (5pc) believe football is the most important thing in their life – even when compared to their family members, work, or chances of romance.

Perhaps that’s why 14pc admit they would skip a first date to watch the Canaries

The campaign also features celebrity fan stories, including West Ham supporter Danny Dyer and comedian Josh Widdicombe.  

Supporters of Accrington Stanley (88pc), Wrexham (81pc) and Stevenage (80pc) are among the most positive about this upcoming season.
