A huge fire near a railway line suspected to involve gas cylinders caused major disruptions to train services in the region.

The fire at Sackers recycling centre near Ipswich meant that all lines connected to the area were blocked.

Train users were warned not to travel between Ipswich and Norwich, as well as between Cambridge and Ely.

Train services to and from London Liverpool Street were also affected, with services being terminated at Colchester.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at the recycling centre shortly before 10am today.

Two roads were closed by police while 15 firefighter crews tackled the fire.

Greater Anglia issued an update at 9pm confirming that all lines had reopened.

Meanwhile, Suffolk Fire and Rescue confirmed that the fire at Sackers Recycling was under control, allowing them to reduce their presence to eight fire engines.

They said they would remain at the scene overnight but as the fire was not fully out, they advised people in the area to keep their doors and windows closed.
