From dahlias to sunflowers, have a blooming lovely day out this summer and visit a flower field in Norfolk.

1. Dahlia Addiction at The Old Vineyard Nursery

Where: Overwood Lane, Forncett St Peter, NR16 1LW

When: Summer opening hours - Thursdays: 10am-4pm, Fridays and Saturdays: 10am-8pm, Sundays and Mondays: 10am-4pm

Price: Free entry

Dahlias have been planted across two acres at this former vineyard, with 250 varieties in a kaleidoscope of colour.

The dahlias in the field are not available to purchase, but there is a stand where you can buy potted ones.

The on-site coffee shop, open until late on Friday and Saturday evenings, boasts a large outdoor seating area and it also has an alcohol licence.

2. Norfolk Lavender

Where: Caley Mill, Lynn Road, Heacham, PE31 7JE

When: Summer opening hours - daily from 9am to 5pm

Price: Free entry, call 01485 570384 for times and prices for guided tours (running until August 24)

This purple paradise is open all year round, with summer the best time to visit as the lavender bursts into flower and the air is full of the relaxing fragrance.

There is a mini lavender field on site that is free to visit or you can book a guided tour.

There is also a garden centre, farm shop, tearoom and restaurant.

3. Ha Ha Farm

Where: Hemblington Road, Strumpshaw, NR13 4AH

When: Daily until the beginning of September (end date TBC), 10am-4pm

Price: Free entry, £2 per stem (payable by cash or card)

The pick-your-own (PYO) sunflower field at Ha Ha Farm, located just off the A47, is now open for the 2024 season. 

You can also enjoy cakes and bakes from the coffee hut, with crafting packs and a giant swing for youngsters.

4. The Garden Retreat 

Where: Old Buckenham Country Park, Doe Lane, Old Buckenham, NR17 1PP

When: Wednesdays and Sundays until the end of September (end date TBC), 10am-2pm

Price: Medium jug: £10, large bucket: £16, jam jars for children: £6 (cash only)

The Garden Retreat is back open for its third year and there are more than 40 varieties of flowers to choose from to create a beautiful bouquet. 

New for 2024 is a 'Dahlia Bar', with the stems pre-cut and separated into buckets pick-and-mix style. 

They also offer flower and foliage buckets for weddings and other events, which need to be pre-ordered.

5. Grange Farm

Where: Burdock Lane, Hockwold, IP26 4JN

When: Daily from 10am-7pm (end date TBC)

Price: Free entry, 50p per stem (cash only)

This PYO sunflower field features a 500-metre path to follow and you need to bring your own secateurs. 

Every Wednesday in August from 5pm to 9pm, there is a mobile bar, pop-up pizza kitchen, dessert van, coffee and ice cream trailer and a mini athletics activity.

6. The Pulham Patch

Where: Wood Lane, Pulham Market, IP21 4XU

When: Daily until September 3, 10am-4.30pm

Price: Maize maze - adults: £6, children: £8 (ages 2-18), under 2s: free, family ticket: £26, PYO wildflowers - £5/£10/£15 (cash or card), pre-booking available for the maize maze at pulhampatch.co.uk

The PYO wildflower field at the new Pulham Patch consists of 16 different varieties, including cosmos, poppies and cornflowers. 

There is also a play area and a Boudicca-shaped maize maze, with refreshments from Katherine's Kitchen.

The site, located opposite Goodies Food Hall just off the A140, will also offer pumpkin picking for Halloween.

7. Little Barn 

Where: Church Lane, East Winch, PE32 1NH

When: Daily from August 16-31, 10am to 5pm

Price: £5 entry, under 2s go free, pre-booking available at littlebarnnorfolk.co.uk, additional charge for PYO flowers

The Little Barn in East Winch is launching a maize maze, with stamps to collect, and a PYO flower field this summer.

There will also be an array of food vendors appearing throughout the event and a nature walk to follow.
