New details of the victim of a fatal stabbing in the city have emerged after an inquest into his death was opened.

Oliver Payne was 38 years old when he died after being stabbed in Paragon Place - a housing estate close to Norwich's Roman Catholic cathedral.

An inquest opened into his death at Norfolk Coroner's Court on Wednesday, during which a number of details about Mr Payne were made public.

During the short hearing, senior coroner Jacqueline Lake confirmed that Mr Payne was born on July 1, 1986 in Pembury, near Royal Tunbridge Wells, in Kent.

He was of no fixed abode and was not in occupation at the time of the stabbing.

He died at the scene and his body was formally identified at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital by his partner, Nicola Casey.

A provisional medical cause of his death was given to the court as a single stab wound to the chest.

Almost two weeks on from the incident, on Friday, August 2, no arrests have been made.

Police say they are searching for a suspect but have yet to release any description or information about him, with neighbours claiming they feel "left in the dark".

People living nearby have voiced their fears that crime in the area could be exacerbated following the incident - with the killer still at large.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "This is an area where drug dealings happen all of the time and now somebody has been stabbed in broad daylight and no one has been arrested yet. I don't feel very safe."

Mrs Lake adjourned the hearing until Friday, November 8, when an update on the investigation would be provided.
