The city's new one-stop shop for all things green and exotic has flung open its doors for business.

B'leaf is the latest addition to the Royal Arcade's growing parade of unique and independent retailers.

The brainchild of Peter Weatherill and Claire Bright, it sells rare and interesting flora such as syngonanthus - a gold plant from the swamps of Brazil - among a range of more common houseplants.

Peter said: "It's been a long road to get here but we're excited to finally be open and to get our name out there."

The business was born in Harwich in Essex three years ago before the couple and their five-year-old son George made the move to the fine city after seeing "all it had to offer".

"We've had a very positive response so far and all of the shop owners in the Arcade are fantastic," Peter added.

"We can't wait to show Norwich what we have to offer."

Claire said: “The demand for indoor plants has grown significantly since the COVID lockdowns so there is definitely a good market for them.

"Not only do we sell indoor plants, but we provide expert advice to customers to help them look after their purchases.

"It’s very simple really; bright light, some water - but not too much - and warmth.

"As well as the traditional, easy-care indoor plants and terrariums, for the more adventurous customers, we stock unusual and rare plants such as cacti, air-purifying and pet-friendly plants.”

Simon Ashdown, the director of the company that manages the Arcade, said: "Having recently celebrated the Arcade’s 125th anniversary, the timing is perfect to open another independent store run by two very passionate individuals."
