More than 100 city folk donned their glad rags to attend an over-50s party night.
Age UK Norwich hosted the event for older people at Mr Postles’ Apothecary.
Around 100 partygoers of all ages, even up to 90, enjoyed the packed evening filled with disco classics and ACDC hits.
This big night out was designed to provide opportunities for social connection, health, and wellbeing.
With a variety of activities like a photo booth, party favour table, free arrival drinks, and a spacious dance floor, the atmosphere was inviting and fun-filled.
Age UK Norwich chief executive officer highlighted the spirit of the evening saying: “The night was a huge celebration of later life.
"The city is for everyone, of all ages, and we had people from ages 50 to 90 dancing, talking and laughing.
"Its not age that defines us – its our interests, passions and things we enjoy.
"To quote Frankie Vali – oh what a night.”
The charity's mission is to combat ageism and make the city more age-friendly.
Factors such as transport, mobility, loneliness, and health can often make it challenging to socialise for older individuals, a subject Mr Skipper, a member of the charity, addressed.
Denise Troughton, age-friendly lead, provided perspective on the influence of media portrayals of older people.
She said: "Too often stories play into stereotypes of people being victims of their age, and not the enormous contribution older people already play in our society."
The overwhelming positive response from attendees suggests the parties are delivering their intended impact of fostering intergenerational connections.
With calls for more such events, Age UK Norwich plans to create more opportunities to showcase that ageing isn't a decline, rather it is a stage of life replete with opportunities.
