A grandmother whose body was found in her home by concerned neighbours may have died after tripping over her dog, an inquest has heard.

Barbara Lamb died in January in her home in Catton at the age of 79.

When she was found on January 31, it was discovered she had suffered traumatic chest injuries, including several broken ribs. However, the cause of her injuries remains a mystery.

An inquest into her death held at Norfolk Coroner's Court heard that Mrs Lamb lived with her daughter, Sue Barton, who at the time had been staying with her partner after catching Covid and not wanting to pass it to her.

The court heard her neighbours had grown concerned about Mrs Lamb after noticing she had not taken in a number of parcels left at her home.

One of them, Darren Lee, said in a statement that days earlier he had moved a parcel out of view for her to find, but raised the alarm after noticing she had not taken it in.

He and his neighbours then phoned the police who encouraged them to try her door - which was unlocked.

They then tragically found Mrs Lamb dead inside, with little clues about what happened other than a broken plate on the kitchen floor.

Her pet dog was still inside the property with her.

Ms Barton said in a statement her last contact with her mother was on January 27 - four days before she was found. She was also known to have hand-received a parcel on this date.

She told the court: "I think she may have fallen over the dog and hit herself on the worktop."

Giving a narrative conclusion, area coroner Yvonne Blake, said: "Mrs Lamb was found deceased on her bedroom floor with traumatic chest injuries.

"It is not known whether she had a medical episode and collapsed or suffered an accidental fall."

Mrs Blake added: "It sounds like she had very good neighbours who looked out for her."
