A Chorus Line has exploded onto the stage at Norwich Theatre Royal and audiences can expect two hours of hilarity, heartbreak and high kicks.

The show was first performed off-Broadway in 1975 and it tells the story of 17 dancers as they audition for a spot in a chorus line, vying for one of eight places up for grabs.

It features real life testimonies from late-night recording sessions with dancers.

Each song follows a character or two as they tell their tale - from one man who took his sister's place when she refused to go to her dance lessons to failed stars trying to make it back into the spotlight.

The cast was brilliant, each a triple threat and able to sing, act and dance throughout the show faultlessly.

Jocasta Almgill, playing the part of Diana, was a powerhouse with amazing renditions of ‘Nothing’ and ‘What I Did For Love', with Redmand Rance in the role of Mike Costa the stand-out dancer.

We did not see nearly enough of the character of Larry, performed by Ashley-Jordan Packer, who moved like silk to the beat.

What was most impressive was that the whole cast remained on stage for pretty much the whole performance.

They barely had time to catch their breath before the explosive final number ‘One' - complete with matching gold sequin suits.

Cassie was played by Laura Hills at this performance and she stepped into the role seamlessly.

My only issue was with the visibility of the stage for the right-hand side of the audience.

It meant that there were close-ups of the performers that a large part of the audience missed.

This was the only reason the show didn't get the full five-star rating.
