Those visiting the Sainsbury Centre could soon be greeted by towering hairy sculptures after Norwich City Council green-lit the project.

The gallery, located on the grounds of the UEA, is working with Richmond Art Service to create a new series of sculptures titled "Towards the Weird Heart of Things".

The partnership will feature a new site-specific commission by Turkey-born artist Ivan Morison.

They will be building the three temporary sculptures which will stand around three to four metres high and be made from hay, hemp, sheep’s wool, lime and clay all covering a timber frame.

In the application the gallery said the reason for the structures is to "explore the question 'Why do we take drugs?'"

After five months on display in the Sainsbury Centre's sculpture park, they will move to the Orleans House Gallery in London next year.

Before plans were submitted, Mr Morison led two life-drawing sessions with artists and farmers, to help shape the silhouette, form, and texture of the final sculptures.
