A 37-year-old returning to Norwich after visiting friends abroad died after falling twice from an airport hotel balcony.
An inquest into the death of Aleksander Wynn heard he took his own life while staying overnight at the Hilton Hotel, near Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam on September 24, 2023.
On the day of his death Aleksander, who lived in Cromer Road and worked at the Range, messaged his friends and his mum saying his flight was delayed and that he'd missed his connecting flight to England.
A statement from his mum, Ann, was read out in court.
It said: "He'd been helping take care of his grandparents, so I was glad he was going on holiday as he needed the break.
"He was looking forward to seeing his friends, who said during his stay, that he felt relaxed for the first time in months.
"After dropping Aleksander off at the airport he called them to say his flight had been delayed and he'd missed his connecting flight to England, so KLM gave him a voucher for an overnight stay at the hotel.
"Aleksander's loss has left a massive hole in my life and that my old self is completely destroyed.
"He was a very kind and gentle person who never failed to support me.

"He never gave me any indication he felt suicidal."
Senior coroner, Johanna Thompson read out two witness statement from staff working at the hotel.
One said: "At around 12.45am I was closing the bar and heard someone shouting.
"I looked up and saw a man fall down to the second floor balcony from either the third or fourth floor.
"I saw him stand up and jump again, landing just in front of the escalators."
A report from Dr Igali confirms the cause of death was due to a "fractured skull from falling from height".
Johanna Thompson said: "Aleksander carried out the act of taking his own life and had the intent of doing so, despite no history of suicidal expression.
"He took his life while of disturbed mind."
