Staff at a popular gaming shop in the city centre recently opened up to broken glass scattered everywhere after a break-in at the store.

Athena Games, down St Gregory's Alley just around the corner from St Benedicts Street, was broken into at the weekend.

The business' CCTV spotted the brazen burglar climbing through a small window in one of the rear doors to gain access to the shop floor after their attempt to kick down the doors failed.

While the shop managed to escape being fully ransacked it lost out on a day's worth of trade and nearly £200 - some of which was from the charity pot there.

Mitchell Head, manager of Athena Games for three and a half years, said: "I got a call by the team leader opening up who told me one of the windows had been smashed.

"When I checked the CCTV it showed someone - first of all - trying to kick the doors in but they managed to hold.

"They then used a fire extinguisher to smash one of the smaller windows in the door and crawled through.

"Thankfully no stock was taken but they took both tills and any cash they could get their hands on, so we only lost about £180.

"Unfortunately we had to close all day Sunday which is where we lost out most, as we hold events that day too.
