From forests and parks to rivers and open fields, there are many beautiful locations in and around Norwich to let the dog off the lead.

Here are seven of the best: 

1. Whitlingham Great Broads

The Broads in your pocket, this spot offers trails short and long to suit any walk (Image: James Bass) If you love to walk your dog while enjoying the riverside sights then look no further than Whitlingham Great Broads.

Just on the edge of the city, this beautiful spot is like being teleported to the countryside.

Whether you're looking for a short trail around Whitlingham Little Broad or going for the full stretch, this gorgeous gem offers lots of choice for you and your dog. 

2. Catton Park

Catton park has everything a dog walker could want (Image: Newsquest)Catton park is the perfect mix of everything you and dog could ask for in a walk to suit any day, even hosing a sculpture trail. 

With parking available at the entrance you have the option to head straight into the open park with lots of paths or off the the side for a venture through the tree line.

This location also offers a fenced-off inner park with a small pond for our pooches that can be off the lead but require a bit more care with open spaces.

3. Mousehold Heath

Mousehold Heath offers adventures large and small, different every time  (Image: Google Maps)Mousehold Heath is full of many beautiful routes all year round, from uphill trails to gentle woodland stretches for you to venture. 

This area is home to lots of different terrains and places to sniff and dig, keeping your dog entertained while you enjoy views over the city centre. 

There is also lots of free parking available along the road accessing multiple entrances, making each walk different every time. 

4. Earlham Park

Earlham park is perfect for a long walk or basking in the sun  (Image: Brittany Woodman)Earlham park sits on the edge of the University of East Anglia campus and is an excellent spot for dogs to explore. 

There is plenty of open space for running around and playing ball games with your pooch with access to the River Yare to paddle. 

Just be sure that your dog is comfortable round lots of people as Earlham park attracts lots of people all year round. 

5. Boudicca Way

Boudicca Way follows along the River Yare connecting to the River Tas  (Image: Google Maps)This river trail begins in Bracondale Road just before St Andrew's Church when coming from the city centre and offers a more liner path to follow.

The narrow footpath follows along the River Yare, before connecting to the River Tas trailing alongside picturesque fields and green land.

This quiet spot offers a more shaded walk under the trees, with plenty of stop-offs beside the river for your dog to cool down.

6. Marston Marsh

This walk is found along Ipswich Road just beside Danby Wood, offering a more open ground for your pooch to run about in and play. 

Don't forget your wellies for this one, Marston Marsh is home to lots of wildlife to watch while your dog wonders. 

7. Belmore Plantation

Belmore Plantation, part of Thorpe Woods is truly beautiful all year round, perfect for walks (Image: Simon Finlay) The last spot on the list goes to the beautiful hiking spot Belmore Plantation for its easy trails to take it slow.

When you enter the woods, you are immediately greeted with fairy doors dotted around the trees as you and your dog follow the trail. 

This is another lovely spot to enjoy with a nice pair of wellies, scattered with ponds it's only a short walk from Dussindale Recreation Ground.
