The funeral arrangements of a much-loved city chef have been announced.

Richard Hughes, chef-director of The Assembly House in Norwich, passed away earlier this month following a long illness.

Anyone wishing to pay their respects can do so at The Assembly House just before noon on October 1.

As the hearse makes its way to Mr Hughes' private funeral, it will stop at the restaurant where people are encouraged to gather by 11.55am.

In a statement posted to Facebook, a spokesman for The Assembly House said: "We promised you that we'd let you know how you could pay your respects to our beautiful boss Richard Hughes when he makes his final journey back to work for one last time.

"Before his private funeral, the hearse will make its way into Norwich and will enter the gates at The Assembly House at around 12 noon on October 1.

"We are suggesting that if you would like to wish Richard well on his next journey, you come inside the gates and gather on the footpaths that flank the driveway by 11.55am at the latest.

"St Peter Mancroft is kindly tolling a special bell for Richard as he pauses by the fountain before leaving the House for the final time."

The Assembly House will close from 11am on October 1 so that staff can attend Mr Hughes' funeral, before reopening on October 2.

The business is also planning special events to remember their chef including a public memorial at St Peter Mancroft.

The post added: "These past few weeks have been very sad and difficult for those of us who loved the wonderful Richard.

"We thank our spectacular team, many of whom are struggling to cope with the loss of not only the leader of the pack, but a best friend, an inspirational boss, a cheerleader, a father and a husband.

"We love you Richard."
