Norwich police are investigating the second murder in the city in the space of two months after a man was stabbed to death in Mile Cross. Here is what we know so far...
The incident on Saturday
Emergency services were called to a group of flats in Lefroy Road at 10.40pm on Saturday after reports of a stabbing.
When officers arrived, they found the body of a man with a single stab wound.
A tent was set up at the back of the building while investigations continued, with forensic officers sent to the scene.
A woman who has lived in the road for six years said: "I've never known anything like this happening here before.
"It is quite concerning when you hear that kind of thing going on. It's so sad when someone loses their life like that."
The investigation
On Monday evening, detectives revealed the victim was a 19-year-old man from London.
They said his body was believed to have been in the flat for around eight days.
His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination has confirmed his death was consistent with a single stab wound to the chest.
Investigators added they believe the murder was drug-related but that it was an "isolated" incident, unrelated to the murder at Paragon Place earlier this summer.
Detective inspector David McCormack said: “We understand there will be concern within the community. We do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.
"We appreciate the patience of the community while the police cordon remains in place and investigations continue."
He added there will be "high-visibility police activity" in the area over coming days.
The appeal
Police are continuing their appeal to the public.
They particularly want to hear from people with information leading up to the body being discovered between September 12 and 21.
DI McCormack said: “We are appealing for witnesses who have connections with the address to come forward and anyone who may have information or be aware of anything suspicious.
“We would urge anyone with information or is aware of anything suspicious to come forward and contact police.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Norfolk Police quoting reference 534 of September 21, 2024.
