Plans to transform a former clothing shop into a rooftop bar and restaurant have been met with backlash.

An application to turn the former Evans shop on Red Lion Street into The Aslan, a rooftop bar, has received 13 objections since May.

Under the plans the city centre building will be transformed into a cafe and bar, with a balcony overlooking the street on the first floor and a new roof garden.

However local people are concerned about the potential for "loud music and client noise" at night and at the weekends, when nearby public houses are also busy.

Applicant Zafer Arslandok shared his disappointment via a letter to Nyasha Dzwowa, a planner at Norwich City Council.

He said: "I propose creating a beautiful garden in the city centre that would enhance the view for Towergate residents.

"The plants in this garden will improve air quality and provide a vibrant space for people to enjoy.

"It is disappointing that some prefer a lifeless black roof over a lively, pleasant environment.

"I struggle to understand why some assume that pleasant gatherings in Norwich will lead to disturbances.

Mr Aslandok first submitted his plans for the rundown former Evans clothing store back in August 2022.

However by February 2023 the plans for the rooftop area had been cut after people living in Westlegate Tower raised concerns about noise complaints.

City councillors did approve the application for a cafe and bar, but not the use of the rooftop - a significant blow to the plans.
