A city business has been left with £20,000 worth of damage after a leak in the kitchen.

Co-owner of Norwich Art Supplies, Daniel Goldsworthy, received a call from one of his employees on Monday morning saying there was a leak.

When he arrived at the store in St Benedicts Street, he discovered an inch of water on the kitchen floor due to a leaky water heater.

To shut off the water, Mr Goldsworthy entered the basement stairwell and was met with "papers, brushes and paints floating in 10 inches of water".

"Luckily we are insured for the stock but we won't know the full extent of the damage until we do an inventory,” he said. “Fortunately, the landlord is very good and got a pump in. We are still pumping it out now."

The shop stayed open during the clean-up operation and “wet footsteps” were seen throughout the store while the team dealt with the flooding.

But the business warned that some products online may no longer be available due to water damage.

Mr Goldsworthy added: “We got on with looking after the customers from when we opened and mopping up the kitchen area in particular.”
