An Albanian who came to the UK on a small boat and was jailed after being found in a car with 15kg worth of drugs could yet face charges over the discovery of £275,000 worth of cannabis in Norwich, it has emerged.

Elmas Vreka, 21, was in a white BMW which police noticed as it was stopped at a BP garage at Thetford due to the smell of cannabis coming from inside.

Officers went on to find 15kg of cannabis "waste product" in bin bags in the boot of the car following the stop on November 16 last year.

Vreka, formerly of Brunswick Road, Sutton, was sentenced to eight weeks in prison at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday after he had admitted possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Ian James, prosecuting, said the issue over whether Vreka would face charges in relation to that offence were "simply unresolved at the moment".

Vreka was found in the BMW alongside driver Erenik Celaku, 36, from London, who was last month jailed for 10 weeks after admitting possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He was also banned from driving for 12 months after admitting driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Sentencing Vreka, Judge Katharine Moore said the drugs seized by police were "very low quality indeed".

Judge Moore said Vreka may yet face charges in relation to cannabis found at Ranworth Road.

Lori Tucker, mitigating, said Vreka deserved credit for his plea to the offence.

She said the cannabis was low value and Vreka, who came to this country illegally on a small boat, owed money to others.
