A teenage girl was left with cuts and bruises after being attacked in Norwich.

The victim's grandmother shared an appeal for witnesses to social media, claiming the 15-year-old had been "surrounded by five girls and four boys" while visiting Castle Quarter on Saturday afternoon.

The post recalled how she was "dragged outside by Norwich Castle" and "forced to say sorry for what she had done".

"She didn't know what she had done," her grandmother wrote.

"They forced her to get down on all fours and bark like a dog, then kicked and punched her to the ground while they videoed it and walked off."

A Norfolk Constabulary spokeswoman confirmed the incident had been reported and the girl had suffered bruising and a cut to the face as a result.

Rob Bradley, the Castle Quarter centre manager, added: "We’re very sorry to hear of this young person’s experience at the weekend. 

"Our security team was not made aware of the incident on Saturday. We have since carefully reviewed our CCTV which does not show any assault taking place inside Castle Quarter. 

"Our security team remains in close dialogue with local police officers and will continue to cooperate and share information to assist with any further investigations."
