A Norwich care home transformed itself into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

This was part of a celebration for Roald Dahl Day at Care UK's Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane.

Residents and staff dressed as their favourite characters from the author's beloved novels, enjoying a day of fun and fundraising for the Roald Dahl Children’s Charity.

The home was decorated to resemble the magical worlds of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and 'James and the Giant Peach'.

Residents enjoyed sharing memories of reading to their children and grandchildren, and expressing their love for books.

The themed day extended to meals, with head chef Tom Barnes preparing dishes such as 'The Witches green pea soup', 'The BFG’s Snozzcumber sandwiches', and 'James’ peach crumble'.

A 'Willy Wonka’s chocolate cake' was also served, as residents participated in a 'find the golden ticket' game.

Local baker Kerry Roberts, of Kerry’s Bouqcakes, contributed to the day by providing cupcakes for a raffle, which raised £131 for the charity.

Resident Irene Beckett, 98, said: “What a great day, everyone looked fantastic.

"It was lovely to see the Roald Dahl books again and knowing how much enjoyment my family have had reading these over the years. "

Karen Curle, home manager at Cavell Court, said: “We had a brilliant time hosting a day to celebrate everyone’s favourite childhood Roald Dahl novels.

“Here at Cavell Court, we’re passionate about hosting exciting activities and always looking for an excuse to dress up, and Roald Dahl Day provided the perfect opportunity to do just this.

"It was lovely to see residents sharing stories of their own and reminiscing on their time as parents and grandparents reading stories."

Cavell Court is a care home offering residential, dementia, and short-term respite care.

It features a cinema and hairdressers, with ample indoor and outdoor space for relaxation and recreation.
