Plans for a dozen new electric vehicle chargers at Longwater Retail Park have been submitted. 

The chargers would be installed on the eastern side of the Sainsbury's car park, in the middle of the retail site. 

They would be made from reinforced plastic and "strong" glass, with a power unit, substation and protective bollards coming as part of the application.

Currently, 644 parking spaces are available at Sainsbury's, but the EV area would reduce this to 632. 

No changes have been proposed to the existing pedestrian walkway or the main building.

According to a design document submitted to South Norfolk District Council, supermarket car parks are an "established" location for EV charge points, given their size and high volume of users.

They will be delivered to keep up with the demand for more sustainable modes of transport as laid out in the Greater Norwich Local Plan. 

The proposal will receive a decision in the coming months.
