Routes affected included London Liverpool Street to Colchester, Ipswich, Clacton-on-sea and Norwich.

The problem is now fixed and the disruption ended at 2.30pm, an hour earlier than expected.

A spokesman for Greater Anglia said: "We are working closely with Network Rail to fix the problem as soon as possible.

"In the meantime, please expect your journey to take longer than usual until we restore our advertised timetable."
