A neighbourhood is hunting for a lost gorilla after one family’s prized ape statue went missing from their front garden.

Standing at two-foot-tall, the beloved ornament called Pete had pride of place outside Barbra Fisher’s home in Ashwell Court, Bowthorpe.

He has been sorely missed and Barbara has informed the police suspecting his disappearance is down to theft.

She said officers would not be able to take a statement until October 17 which she blasted as "a joke".

"I paid £150 for it and we miss it so much," she said.

"If anyone is offered or knows where a gorilla is, let me know."

Neighbours have been asked to check their doorbell cameras or CCTV to see if the suspected theft, believed to have happened between 2pm and 8pm on Monday, was caught on camera.

Anyone with any information or footage should speak to the police.
