A city dental surgery is set to expand again as demand rapidly increases.
Newmarket Road Dental Clinic just off the A11 will soon grow as Norwich City Council has approved the latest plans for the surgery.
The city clinic will take over the semi-detached property next door and up its staffing numbers from five full-time and five part-time staff to 12 full-time and two part-time staff.
This will allow for five more treatment rooms at the surgery, as well as further space for storage and training.
As part of the same application, a new home will also be built in the grounds as the land is divided in two.
It comes after the surgery was already granted permission in May last year to renovate a flat above the business.
Newmarket Road Dental Clinic is not the first in the city to expand into residential properties.
Earlier this year, Friends Dental Practice in Sprowston was granted permission for similar plans, which will soon see the surgery able to take around 200 more NHS patients.
In April this year patient group Healthwatch Norfolk (HWN) conducted a survey of more than 50 dental surgeries in the county as people continue to struggle to access services.
The organisation found that of the 53 practices asked, none were accepting new NHS patients and some had waiting lists in the thousands.
With demand continuing to rise for dental care in Norfolk, the private clinic has been granted permission for the plans - but with several constraints for Norwich City Council.
The applicant, Dr Shah, has to start work at the site within three years of the decision notice.
The construction of the new build can also not begin until the expansion of the surgery into the neighbouring property is complete.
