Come From Away has landed at Norwich Theatre Royal and it captivated the audience from the very first note.
It is an uplifting musical that tells the true story of what happened when 38 planes were ordered to land unexpectedly in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, during the events of September 11, 2001.
The show, directed by Christopher Ashley with award-winning writers Irene Sankoff and David Hein, blends lots of humour, heart, and humanity.
The ensemble cast is outstanding with each actor portraying multiple roles with incredible vocals. They are talented in creating a vibrant range of diverse characters with the change of accents, costumes and body language.
The role of Beulah, played by understudy Sorelle Marsh, was a stand-out performance. Marsh brought a real warmth to the character and the entire show.
The music in the show is a mix of folk and contemporary styles which felt very fresh. The songs enhance the story's emotional depth and reflect the spirit of the small town of Gander.
The band is incredibly talented and the show's final number was the highlight as they all demonstrated their amazing skills with their instruments.
The production design is minimalist yet effective, allowing the story and characters to shine. The quick pace of the show keeps the audience engaged whilst also reflecting the urgency and abruptness of the events.
Come From Away deserves all of the accolades it has achieved. With its heartfelt performances, brilliant music and uplifting message, it’s a production that stays with you.
Come From Away runs until October 26 - book at norwichtheatre.org.
