A former Norwich City player is facing four years in prison after admitting secretly filming sexual encounters with two women.

Hwang Ui-jo, 31 - who scored three goals in 17 appearances during his loan spell with the Canaries - appeared in court in Seoul this week accused of filming the victims on four occasions in 2022 without their consent.

The South Korean international, who now plays for Turkish side Alanyaspor, pleaded guilty to all the charges.

The case against Hwang emerged while he was on loan at Norwich City from Nottingham Forest last season.

According to the BBC, the videos came to light after Hwang's sister-in-law shared them on social media, in an attempt to blackmail him.

She was sentenced to three years in prison in September for the blackmail after Hwang sued her.

However, the charges against him proceeded as prosecutors said he filmed the videos illegally.

Prosecutors are now demanding a four-year prison term for the striker.

In court, he issued an apology to his victims, saying: "I will not do anything wrong in the future and will do my best as a footballer.

"I sincerely apologise to the victims who have been affected by my actions, and I am deeply sorry for the disappointment I have caused to all those who have cared and supported me."

He is due to be sentenced in December.

Hwang joined Norwich on loan in September 2023.

His contract with the club was terminated early, in January, and he returned to Nottingham after he suffered injury setbacks.
