A police investigation into the murder of a man during daylight in a busy city estate has stalled.

Detectives are no closer to arresting someone in connection with the fatal stabbing of Oliver Payne two months on from his killing.

Immediately following the incident, which happened in Paragon Place on August 2, officers launched a murder investigation.

At the time detectives in charge of the case said it was an isolated incident and believe the victim and suspect were known to each other.

They added they were urgently working to locate the suspect.

But months later and cops still haven’t arrested the suspect or, despite repeated requests from this paper, released his description or say where he might be.

Last month it seemed there might be a breakthrough in the case when a man in his 20s was interviewed under caution by cops at a station in Stoke Newington on suspicion of assisting an offender before being released.

There has been no further update since.

PARAGON PLACE MURDER

Officers were called to Paragon Place at 6.44pm on August 2 following reports that a man had been stabbed.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr Payne, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The killing happened in daylight in front of people passing through the busy estate near Grapes Hill and neighbours living there.

Folk on the estate have told of their worries about the lack of results from the police’s search efforts.

Harry, who didn't want to give his last name, said: "When we heard that the suspect and the victim were known to each other and that the stabbing was likely drugs related, it made me feel better.

"Now I just question if that is really the case, or whether the police were just trying to stop us feeling anxious.

"My instinct is that they haven't released any further information because they haven't got very far with their investigations and haven't got anything to say, which is really upsetting."
