Brooke Smith from Beccles competing for Miss Earth crown

Brooke Smith, 26, is from Beccles and works at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

When she isn't in her scrubs, she enjoys campaigning for charities and preparing for beauty pageants.

Her latest win was in the Miss Earth competition which is a Big Four beauty pageant alongside Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International.

This year, the 81 Miss Earth delegates will spend a month in the host country of the Philippines, promoting the event's ethos of environmental awareness and eco-friendly tourism practices.

Miss Smith said she was "incredibly proud to be able to represent England on the international stage".

"As a nurse, I specifically want to advocate and raise awareness about how climate change is affecting women and children's health," she said.

Miss Earth has been criticised for being contradictory with people travelling from across the world to an event which promotes environmental action.

But Miss Smith insisted the pageant does far more good than bad.

"While the flights of delegates may seem contradictory to the cause, the potential benefits of heightened awareness, sustainable practices, and global collaboration can justify their journey.

"The organisers often implement sustainable practices during the event, such as promoting eco-friendly travel options, reducing waste, and supporting local initiatives, which can help mitigate the carbon footprint of the delegates' travel."

The Miss Earth pageant will take place on November 9.
