A firm owned by a Norfolk estate agent has been ordered to be wound up over tax debts.
SWEA Ltd, registered at Oak Lodge Business Centre, in Little Melton, near Norwich, has entered liquidation after being issued a winding-up order by the High Court at the request of HMRC.
SWEA Ltd's sole director is Christopher Starkings, who is also a director of S&W Sales Ltd and S&W Lettings Ltd, which trades as Starkings and Watson estate agents.
Starkings and Watson have eight offices in Norfolk and Suffolk.
SWEA Ltd received the winding-up order earlier this month after failing to attend a court hearing on August 21 this year, which related to its tax affairs.
The firm's latest unaudited abridged accounts for the year to December 31, 2023, were published on the Companies House website seven days before it was issued with the winding-up order.
Its accounts showed it owed creditors more than £500,000.
The accounts also showed more than £762,000 in staff costs for wages, salaries, social security costs and pensions for 34 employees.
As well SWEA Ltd being wound up under the provisions of the Insolvency Act, it was ordered to pay costs to HMRC out of the company's assets.
A HMRC spokesman said: “We take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts and only file winding-up petitions once we’ve exhausted all other options, in order to protect taxpayers’ money.”
Mr Starkings did not wish to comment.
Alongside SWEA Ltd, Mr Starkings is an active director of KR-SWEA Ltd, KC-SWEA Ltd, KB-SWEA Ltd, KD-SWEA Ltd and KBR-SWEA Ltd.
All of these companies are registered at the same address at Oak Lodge Business Centre in Little Melton – apart from KB-SWEA Ltd, which is registered at an address in Loddon.
Mr Starkings is a director of S&W Sales Ltd and S&W Lettings Ltd, both incorporated in February 2023, and two other companies - all registered at Roxburgh House at Poringland’s Rosebery Business Park.
SWEA Ltd's previous directors include Louise Starkings and Sharon Watson, who resigned in 2016 and 2016 respectively.
Oak Lodge Business Centre is in no way affiliated with SWEA Ltd, Mr Starkings, or any of his other companies registered at the address.
