A medieval chapel which has just been greenlit for modernisation is being eyed for a permanent arts centre. 

Becket's Chapel in Wymondham could become the town's full-time space for staging art exhibitions, recitals and private functions when the ambitious conversion project goes ahead. 

The chapel was formerly used as the town library before it moved to new premises in Back Lane in 2008.

But a feasibility study carried out by Lucas & Western Architects has highlighted its long-term viability as a creative space, with English Heritage and the parish planning authority voicing their support.

A new conservatory and reception area would allow Wymondham Arts Forum to occupy the building permanently.
