Terry Allcock memorial match ready to kick off this weekend

Sunday's event will pay tribute to Terry Allcock, Norwich City's second highest scorer, who died in June aged 88.

Mr Allcock was born in Leeds in 1935 and played for Bolton Wanderers in 1952. 

He then made his debut for Norwich City in 1958 in a draw against Millwall and his nickname was The Count.

The Canaries favourite went on to manage Dereham Town.

The memorial match, which will see former Dereham and Fakenham football players go head-to-head, will kick off at 10.30am on Sunday at Aldiss Park in Dereham. 

There will also be an unveiling of a tribute to Mr Allcock where those attending can enjoy a glass of Terry Allcock Tribute Ale, brewed to 3.91pc to mark his 391 games for Norwich City.

His family will also put on a display of his memorabilia, which was collected throughout his career, including shirts, programmes and press cuttings.

"People have really come together for The Count and it's been a real team effort.

"There are so many parts to the day and we are very grateful to Dereham and Fakenham U10's and all the former players taking part to celebrate Terry and raise awareness of dementia.

"Terry Allcock's family have been magnificent and there will be a display of his football and cricket memorabilia for people to remember the great man.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and NICHE Anchor Institute for having stands to give people the chance to talk about dementia and research.

"Dereham Town Football Club have been incredible and we just hope people come out in numbers to remember and celebrate a true legend."
