A woman has fulfilled her dream of translating a French book into English.

Lynette Raven, from Wymondham, will see her translation of the book Une chambre à air by Swiss author Naomi Cahen published on November 29.

Ms Raven, a fluent French speaker, previously worked as an English teacher, interpreter, and translator in France.

In 2022, she earned a Master of Arts Degree in Translation from the Open University and started looking for French books to translate.

Frustrated by the lack of interest from UK publishers in the books she believed would appeal to English readers, she took matters into her own hands.

This summer, she met Naomi Cahen, an autistic author who had recently experienced a breakup and coped by cycling alone from London to her home in Lausanne, Switzerland, while documenting her journey.

Her personal diary and travel log delved into the depths of her mind, exploring human thought and behaviour.

In summer 2023, Ms Raven established her own publishing company, Raven Translation Press.

Her aim was to not only publish her own translations but also to help others in a similar position to introduce non-English books to a wider audience.

Juggling these responsibilities, she also cared for her terminally ill father, who died this year, and battled cancer herself.

Despite these challenges, she remained determined to see her project through, and is now on the path to recovery, hoping for a clean bill of health in December.

Her husband said: "She never gave up and her determination to achieve her goal helped her through some dark times."

He added: "I think that her story will give hope to others fighting cancer and to people who want to achieve their dream."
