A groundskeeper has been recognised for his 60 years of service.

Terry Farrow, a groundsman at St Faiths Crematorium, has worked at the site since 1963 and said he has no plans to retire.

He said: “When I started, I never imagined I’d still be here after all these years.

"Gardening helps keep me active and there are many mental health benefits to being outdoors and surrounded by nature.”

During his time at the crematorium, Terry has seen it grow and change, but his job is about more than just tending to the grounds.

He said: “There are families who come here during the hardest times of their lives and it’s important to me that the space is peaceful and welcoming.

"If a visitor ever needs a chat or just a friendly face, I’m always happy to be that person.”

Debbie Leah, business leader at St Faiths, praised Terry's dedication, saying: “Terry is an absolute legend here.

"If anyone has a question about gardening, planting, or maintaining the grounds, we all turn to Terry.

"He’s made our grounds what they are today – a beautiful, tranquil space that so many local families treasure.”

Terry’s passion for his work is clear in how he cares for the grounds daily.

From chatting with visitors to tending to the flowers, he ensures every part of the crematorium is welcoming and well-kept.

Debbie added: “Terry’s commitment to the crematorium and his passion for his work is unparalleled.

"He embodies the heart and soul of St Faiths, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate his 60 years of service.”

Terry continues to maintain the peacefulness of the crematorium with as much enthusiasm as when he first started.

He said: “There’s always more to learn about gardening, and I’m not done yet.”
