A French Bulldog believed to have been stolen has died in her owner’s arms after being anonymously handed in.

Jennie Frost first realised Chai was not at home in Grove Avenue, Costessey, on the morning of October 21.

With the three-and-a-half-year-old dog nowhere to be seen, Ms Frost began knocking on her neighbours’ doors and was shown some suspicious CCTV footage.

It showed a tall man, in a long black coat and carrying an over-the-shoulder bag, arriving at the property where he took a look around the cars in the driveway.

He then disappeared and hid in a nearby bush before returning to the home.

Just one day later Ms Frost received a call saying Chai was handed into Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership after being found in the Larkman area.

Chai had multiple dog bites and broken legs and was rushed into surgery before dying in Ms Frost's arms.

"She looked relieved to see me and immediately laid in my arms on her fluid drip,” Ms Frost said. "Chai was sadly not able to make it and passed away in my arms.”

Despite feeling “desperately heartbroken”, Ms Frost was still very thankful to be reunited with Chai one last time.

"I want to thank everyone for such amazing support and publicity,” she added. “Chai might never have been able to say goodbye and rest in peace.

"She suffered more than anyone or any animal should and I am grateful I got to hold her in my arms to tell her she is safe now."
