A dingy boat house connected to an 18th century home has been given the green light to be revamped after plans were approved.

Proposals were lodged with the Norwich City Council earlier this year for the existing "dilapidated" boat house - at Grade II listed home known as the Lodge in Sandy Lane, Lakenham - to be rebuilt.

The application includes proposals to build a new, single storey, boat house along with a summerhouse and a small store to the rear.

In the statement it said: "The boathouse will have a mono-pitch roof in order to keep a low-profile low within the neighbouring boundary and have as little impact as possible.

"The proposed design also includes a glazed summerhouse with bifold doors and an overhanging roof which provides some solar shading.

"A deck will provide non-slip boat access to the boat house, which will be open on two sides."

The city council approved the plans Monday, which shall begin within three years of the decision.

The building was added to the National Heritage List for England in 1954 and is located near St John the Baptist and All Saints Church.
