A pair of noisy neighbours with more than 700 complaints to their name have been prosecuted in the name of a "fairer Norwich".
The duo had been making neighbours' nights miserable by blasting loud music - to the point that some had to sleep in their cars just to escape.
Council officers personally witnessed the unacceptable noise levels multiple times which led to the installation of specialist equipment.
After a slew of 747 noise complaints across 18 months on the council's noise app, Norwich City Council took the offenders to Norwich Magistrates' Court.
The pair were fined £400 for breaches of a Noise Abatement Notice, with additional costs including a £160 victim surcharge, £100 in legal fees and £50 in enforcement and investigation costs.
In court, the council applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order which could see the perpetrators banned from playing loud music for two years.
The pair, who have not been named to protect the identity of their neighbours, could face jail time if the conditions of the order are breached.
The crackdown comes amid the council's goal to create "a fairer Norwich', part of a community-led We are Norwich plan to ensure locals have a good quality of life.
Councillor Beth Jones, cabinet member for housing, said: “Excessive noise can have a devastating impact on people’s lives, particularly when it prevents them from getting the rest they need or from working.
"We take noise complaints very seriously and will continue to take legal action against those who disrupt the peace of their communities.”
