People living near a junction on a busy road hope that it will be made safer now that the district’s MP said he supports its redesign.

Drivers waiting to get onto North Walsham Road from Spixworth say they have to wait up to 20 minutes and that fast-moving traffic makes the turning unsafe.

Haley Woor, 49, has lived in the village for 12 years and said using the junction is "a daily dice with death".

"It's only a matter of time before someone is killed and just because someone hasn't been yet doesn't make it any less of a worry.

"I don't want anyone to be hurt or killed because of a combination of people speeding and poor design of a junction."

An online petition she set up in 2021 calling for something to be done received more than 2,100 signatures.

But the project is still in its early days, according to Melissa, and the type of replacement junction needs to be decided for it to finally go "from design to shovel".

"The discussions within Spixworth as to what would be best to have are mixed," she added.

"Some want a roundabout and others want traffic lights.

"Mr Jerome and the council said a roundabout wouldn't be possible due to cables that run under the road.

The safety of pedestrians and cyclists at the crossroads is a further concern, as well as reduced visibility because of hedges which border the road.

South Norfolk Council and Jerome Mayhew have been approached for comment.
