Multiple roads in the NR3 area of Norwich will close as works are completed under a council's £50m bus service improvement plan.

The works, which aim to improve the traffic flow at the junction of Angel Road and Waterloo Road to through traffic, are due to take place from November 18 until March 16, 2025.

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said: "Buses will be able to move through the area more effectively, improving journey times and reliability for local services, as well as creating a safer environment for pedestrians.

"This will be achieved by changing the priority, upgrading the current signalised crossing, introducing a speed table and two continuous footways."

To carry out the work safely, several road closures and parking restrictions will need to be put in place.

Road closures

Waterloo Road will be closed from the junction of Angel Road to Albany Road for the duration of the works.

The official diversion route will be via Waterloo Road, Magdalen Road, Sprowston Road, Magpie Road and St Augustines Street.

Patteson Road will be subject to a one-way traffic order for the duration of the works and traffic will be able to move from east to west only from Angel Road.

Shipstone Road will be closed to traffic from January 13 until March 16.

Angel Road, Waterloo Road, Patteson Road and Shipstone Road will all be closed for carriageway resurfacing and relining towards the end of the project, with dates and times to be confirmed.

Suspensions of parking restrictions

Residential permit parking and the time-limited bay will be suspended on Angel Road at the junction of Patteson Road to Eade Road from November 18 until March 16.

This will allow two-way temporary traffic lights to operate during construction work.

The time-limited parking bay in Patteson Road near the junction of Angel Road will be suspended from November 18 until March 16 to enable the construction work and vehicle movements for traffic management.

In Shipstone Road, residents' permit parking will be suspended from January 13 until March 16 to coincide with the road closure required to enable the installation of new highway drainage.

Bus services

The 21 and 21a bus routes will not be affected during the construction but there may be some delays due to traffic management requirements at the junction of Angel Road and Waterloo Road.

There will be further closures for surfacing and lining towards the end of the project but they will likely take place outside bus operation hours to minimise disruption.

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said: "We understand that disruption on the roads and to bus services is frustrating and would like to apologise for any inconvenience this work causes.

"We would like to thank everyone affected for their patience while construction takes place and we will be working with our contractor, Tarmac, throughout to minimise the impact as much as possible."
