A man accused of assaulting a woman on a popular Norwich walking and cycling path has refused to attend court for a hearing ahead of his trial later this month.
Derry Bates, 44, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence.
It follows an alleged attack on Marriott's Way, near Barker Street, shortly before 1.30pm on May 23 this year.
Bates, who is due to stand trial on November 18 having denied both offences, was due to appear at Norwich Crown Court for a further case management (FCM) hearing on Tuesday (November 5).
But Bates "refused to attend" court in person for the hearing because "he didn't want to".
The court also heard he also refused to attend a link from HMP Norwich where he is currently being held.
Judge Katharine Moore adjourned the hearing until Monday, November 11.
As previously reported, the woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the incident, but was later discharged.
