A city business director has been hit with fines totalling more than £4,000 for dumping waste around the outskirts of Norwich.

Frankie Gunner, of Wilberforce Road, pleaded guilty to fly-tipping waste - namely building materials such as plasterboard, wood and other materials - on two separate occasions.

On July 26 last year, Gunner dumped waste in St Mildreds Road, and again in Wilberforce Road on February 23 this year.

He was also guilty of failing to comply with requirements regarding the furnishing of written descriptions, in relation to the transfer of waste, from July 17 to July 31 last year.

Gunner, director of City Skimmers, was sentenced at Norwich Magistrates' Court yesterday with Norwich City Council prosecuting the 29-year-old.

He was ordered to a community order of 180 hours unpaid work, to be completed within 12 months, as well as £1,109 in costs and £114 victim surcharge.

In addition to this he also received a company sentence of £1,333 and £1,109 in costs for the fly-tipping incidents and a £350 fine - totalling £4,015.

"Most people are proud of our city and treat our streets with respect, so the council will take action against fly-tippers whenever we can."

Last year £100,000 was invested into the city council's Love Norwich campaign which looks to tackle fly-tipping, graffiti and littering through a series of measures.

It launched in November 2022 and has been aiming to tackle environmental anti-social behaviour through enforcement and improved facilities.

However the campaign has been criticised recently for its inaction against fly-tipping after Norwich was named the worst in the country for penalising people dumping unwanted items in September.
