The victim of a fatal stabbing in Norwich died inside the home of one of his neighbours, a court has heard.

An inquest has been opened into the death of Abdulkadar Chadli, who died on November 1. He was 48.

During a hearing, which lasted a little more than a minute, details were provided by assistant coroner Christopher Leach.

It was confirmed that Mr Chadli was born in St Albans in Hertfordshire and was employed as a safety officer.

The court heard that he lived in Mousehold Street in the city and was at an address just a single door away when he was found dead.

The medical cause of his death was given to Norfolk Coroner's Court as a stab wound to the chest.

Mr Leach said: "On November 1, police attended an address after Mr Chadli was found unresponsive.

"Life-saving interventions were attempted unsuccessfully and his death was declared at the scene."

Following the incident, Mr Chadli's neighbour Elvis Vickers, 46, was arrested on suspicion of his murder and later charged.

He has since appeared at Norwich Crown Court via a video link from Norwich Prison, where he is being held on remand.

During the hearing, Vickers, also of Mousehold Street, spoke only to confirm his name and details.

Judge Alice Robinson fixed a provisional date for a trial to be held from March 31 next year, which is expected to last between two and three weeks.

A second man, 37-year-old Craig Townsend, was also arrested at the scene of Mr Chadli's death.

He was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre and subsequently released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Mr Leach adjourned the inquest, with the case due to be further mentioned in the coroner's court in February next year.
