A city teacher who was found dead in woodland days after his 37th birthday was struggling with stress from his job, a court heard.

Anthony Hill, was found in a wooded area between Heathgate and Mousehold Avenue on June 20 2024.

When he went missing three days previously, on his birthday, it made national headlines.

Mr Hill has previously worked for Martin Lewis's MoneySavingExpert.

At the time of the discovery, Mr Lewis shared the news that a body had been found with a "heavy heart" and sent his love to "Ant's wife Kayleigh and their little girls".

He had described him as a "lovely man" who left to pursue "his valiant passion to get into teaching", adding: "It's the worst news.

"I'm so sorry for all Ant's friends and his little pupils. I will remember you fondly, Ant."

The financial guru also thanked the thousands of people who shared social media posts while Mr Hill was missing.

"I know it gave succour to his family," he said.

An inquest into his death heard how the stresses of work as a teacher impacted Mr Hill’s mental health before he died.

A nurse's statement, read out at the inquest, said: "On April 3, 2024, I had a telephone call with Mr Hill.

"His mental health had declined and he struggled to be motivated and low in mood.

"He found his job very stressful with all he had to do as a teacher, which was the reason for his anxiety, because he worried about his responsibility in the role.

"He said he had feelings of dread in the morning, suffering from nausea or vomiting when gearing himself up to go to work."

Mr Hill, who was born in Scunthorpe in 1987, went missing on June 17 and was found by a member of the public who had joined an operation to find him and declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Handwritten notes to his family were also found at the scene.

Mr Hill was last seen on CCTV in Co-Op, in Sprowston Road, buying a bottle of water and prior to that was seen shopping at Homebase.

Giving a narrative conclusion senior coroner Samantha Goward said that Mr Hill "had a history of difficulties but sought to recover from this for his family”.

She added: "Based on the CCTV and personal notes to family I am content it was a deliberate attempt to end his life.

"However there was a clear impact on his thought process by his underlying mental health condition."
