New shop in The Lanes, Elsie B, opening end of the week

Arts and crafts shop, Elsie B, will offer a range of clothing, jewellery, homeware and stationary goods.

The shop is owned by Elise Green, who lives in Costessey and has invested around £20,000 in revamping the former Shuropody Norwich shop in Swan Lane.

The 49-year-old said: "After falling into retail I did some craft fairs but was disheartened by it all because people don't value things there.

"Afterwards though I did a couple of pop-up shops at Wroxham Barn which was fantastic and that planted the seed to get my own shop.

"I am selling unique, handmade, items from people I've met through crafting, craft fairs and research on social media.

"Whether it's clothing, jewellery, homeware or stationary - if it's handmade I'll sell it.

"There's a lot of mass produced items in shops now but I want to champion handmade items and for creative people in Norfolk to be valued for the work they do, because it's great.

"It's something different that people don't find anywhere else.

"I've had great feedback from people passing by, who have asked when the shop is opening because they've seen something in the window they want, which has been lovely."

Mrs Green added that in the new year the upstairs space will hold crafting workshops.

"I've invested a lot of time and money into this project so I really want it to work.

"We make things because we're passionate but I hope creative people's work can be valued more with my shop."

A preview night is being held on Thursday before the shop opens on Friday.
